Harly Three: Karate Kick 1

I want to get some guys really looking like acrobats, and tried to get some real movement into this figure.

Stage one

I cut the legs from the base, and filed the cut down so it looked smooth.

Stage two

Clippers cut smooth on one side and diagonal on the other. If you hold the clippers as in the picture above, you'll have the triangular side on the cloth, which will give you some of the curve you want on the bottom of the cloth. This is easily filed down to look right.

Stage Three

I glued the legs on at an angle

Stage Four

And filled in the gap between the hips and the waist with some greenstuff.

Stage Four

The next bit is quite fiddly, as you're drilling into a very fragile and thin piece of metal

I drilled upwards until i had an indent, and then drilled sideways through the curl of cloth at the bottom of the loincloth, and stuck a piece of paper clip in and glued it in place.

Stage Five

Once the glue had dried, I put some green stuff around the socket to help keep it all in place.

Stage Six

I used a very wet thumb and smoothed out the greenstuff, and left it to dry, and then put a sausage of green stuff around his waist to fill it out.

Stage Seven

Ready for basing.

Stage Eight

Ready for basing.

Stage Nine

Drilled a hole through the cork and the base.

Stage Ten

I put some bits of the metal spru/base on the base to help weight the base down.

I covered with sand: and now ready to paint!
