The Free Legion
Way, way back, when Heavy Metal used to be
written by an independent journalist, and featured non-GW figures,
there was an article which asked 'What to do with all those cool
models you painted?' - of course - rank them up in a
dogs of war army!
I think this was even before figures were
designed for armies, and there was little other way of making all
those D&D adventurers look like they were working together.
This is still the home for all the figures I have no other home for.
